World Hello Day
Hello, Monticello! Tomorrow is World Hello Day. And why not?
There’s a day for everything else. Hello is an English word known almost world wide. To officially participate in World Hello Day, you are required to say “Hello” to at least 10 people that day.
Each time you answer the telephone be it using a land line or a cellphone, hello is the standard greeting. Alexander Graham Bell thought that “Ahoy” would be a good opener, but he took the advice of Thomas Alva Edison who used the word, “Hello” to get the attention of co-workers at his lab. If not for this advice well taken, we could all be answering the phone by say, “Please begin” or “Are you there?”
“Hello” just fits the bill.
Many languages have a similar word, here’s just a few, hallo, halo, hola, hallo, shalom, ola, alo, aloha. Greetings from around the world often start with these words.
So, remember to say “Hello” to 10 people tomorrow. Make some phone calls to friends and family, greet people on the street and in stores.
Most people respond to your “Hello” with another “Hello” back to you. And then there are the smiles that usually follow.
Hello, Monticello! Hello, World!
