Welcoming Doors

What kind of neighbor are you? When you visit a friend, do you knock on their backdoor or front door?

As my mother would say, “If you knock on my front door, you don’t know me.” Even if these two doors are only a few yards from each other, they are definitely a defined feature.

Just the color of your front door says gallons of paint about you.

As you drive around Jasper County, look at the colors of the front doors. According to feng shui experts, red doors yell, “Look at me,” white doors say, “I’m organized and neat,” green doors humbly whisper, “I care about you and the community,” black doors staunchly reflect a conservative, blue doors are for fun people, yellow painted doors say follow me, and purple doors are those of dreamers.

Back doors are casual, you can kick off your shoes inside, wonder into the kitchen or mud room and feel comfortable immediately. You might even see a sign that says, “Back door guests are the best.” At back doors, you’ll see the real family, their warts and where they keep their junk.

Front doors are more formal and lead the visitor into the parlor where you will be offered a beverage. At the back door, you might have to move the cat to sit down and fix your own coffee.

So with all that information in mind, visit your neighbors this week whether you are a front or back door neighbor. Come sit a while and talk. NO texting or emails can replace these chit chats.
