FBLA Attends State Conference
Jasper County High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members proudly accepted the Silver Award they received for the state FBLA Chapter of the Year program at the annual FBLA State Conference held recently in Atlanta.
To earn the silver award, an FBLA chapter must earn a minimum of 950 points by participating in various local, region and state FBLA events throughout the year. The chapter of the year project was submitted by local FBLA members in February.
“Our students work hard to earn the chapter of the year program award,” according to local FBLA adviser Mrs. Amy Scroggs.
“It is very difficult for a small school chapter to be recognized among FBLA organizations that have as many members of their chapter as we have students in our school. However, our members participate in every possible school and community project available to help earn points for this honor. I am very proud of their accomplishments.”
In other accomplishments at the state conference, senior Brandi McMichael placed fourth in the state in Word Processing, and the Business Presentation team made up of DeVon Andrews and Quinton Standifer took sixth place. In addition, the Local Chapter Annual Business Report team made up of Kolby DeGarmo and Cheyenne Gray placed seventh in the state.
Others who competed at the state level and their event were: Clay Evans and Autumn Dennon, accounting; Garrett Scroggs, agribusiness; Chad Cain, business calculations; Cheyenne Gray and Will Robinson, business communication; Cori Griggs, economics; Rebecca Bailey, introduction to business; Nikki Dougherty, introduction to business communication; Cole Usry, introduction to information technology; Daniel Darity, public speaking II; and Autumn Dennon, sales presentation.
JCHS also proudly backed the local Battle of the Chapters team made up of Julius Matchett, DeVon Andrews and Quinton Standifer. The local team placed third in the competition which included hundreds of trivia questions about local, region, state and national FBLA. Placing third is the farthest the local group has ever reached in the Battle of the Chapters contest.
When not competing, the local students joined some 3,500 other FBLA members from around Georgia in various leadership workshops.
FBLA is the largest career-technical student organization in Georgia with more than 27,000 members. Georgia’s FBLA chapter is the largest chapter in the nation, and Jasper County High School’s chapter boasts more than 60 members.
The group was accompanied by advisers Mrs. Johnnie Sue Moore and Mrs. Amy Scroggs and Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Director Buddy Cain.
