Cougar Tracksters Excel

The Piedmont Academy boys track team finished second overall among eight schools during a meet hosted by Gatewood in Eatonton on March 25.

Several team members excelled in their respective events during the second meet of the spring for the Cougars.

In the shot put, Jeremiah Dave was first with a throw of 42-0. Teammate Gaven Edge was fourth (38-5). Tanner Coppock (27-9) and Jaron Autry (26-0) also competed in the event.

In the discus, Dave threw 98-0 to lead Piedmont while Zach Wilson had a mark of 72-5.

Hunter Knox (15-7) and Michael Edwards (15-3) led the Cougars in the long jump.

In the 3,200-meter run, Corbin Burrell (14:13) and Chris Coogler (15:40) led Piedmont. For the 1,600-meter event, Mack Brady was fourth in 5:16.

Chris Coogler (23.25) and Brice Dodson (23.26) ran the 100-meter hurdles while Dave (12.59) ran in the 100-meter dash.

Ben Davis (12.62) competed in the 100-meter dash, Dave ran 26.32 in the 200-meter dash and Knox turned in a time 58.1 in the 400-meter dash. Dodson finished the 800-meter run in 3.04.

In the relay events, Edwards, Knox, Davis and Dave ran 50.9 in the 400-meter relay while that quartet ran 4.46 in the 1,600-meter relay.

The Lady Cougars also had a quality day finishing fifth among eight schools. In the field events. JaDe’ Padgett had a throw of 22-9 in the shot put. Railey Holloway (20-11) and Taylor Patterson (19-9) also competed in the event.

Emily Hammonds’ mark of 13-2 led the Lady Cougars in the long jump while Amelia Dodson (12-7) and Lucy Tuggle (10-2) also competed.

Dodson was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 20.9. In the 100-meter dash Anna Knox led the Lady Cougars in 14.94 followed by Anna Phillips (15.22) and Remington Marsh (15.5).

Hammonds was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1.10) while Patterson finished the event in 1.15. Phillips and Hunt competed in the 800-meter run.

Hammonds also ran the 200-meter dash for Piedmont (31.53) as did Marsh (32.0). Gracie Hunt competed in the 1,600-meter run.

The team of Knox, Patterson, Phillips and Hammonds finished the 400-meter relay in 60.27.

Piedmont was scheduled to compete at Briarwood on April 1 and will now prepare for a meet at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro on April 22.
