Cougars Undefeated in Region

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team earned another region win Tuesday as the Cougars blanked visiting Brentwood, 10-0.

The win improves Piedmont to 3-0 in GISA Region 4-AA play (7-4-2 overall).

“It was a good win,” coach Dan Funt said. “It’s always important to start the region schedule with several wins and we’ve been able to do that.”

Last Thursday, Piedmont defeated The Heritage School 12-7 in a home, non-region contest. Noah Quick was 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs and one RBI while Josh Williams had a 3-for-5 afternoon with three RBI and one run.

Hunter Knox continued his strong play going 2-for-4 with a RBI and Luke Andrews delivered a 3-for-4 effort with three RBI. Mack Brady was 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI with Hunter Burson adding a 1-for-3 performance with two runs scored.

Despite falling down 3-0 after the top of the first, the Cougars simply had too much offense, scoring three in the bottom of the first, three in the second and four more in the third. Piedmont then added runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Andrews earned the win working four innings with three strikeouts. Mike Davis earned the save going three innings with six strikeouts.

Piedmont then ventured to Perry to play Class AAA Westfield on Friday. Despite leading 5-1 after the top of the third inning, the Cougars would fall to host Hornets 20-5.

Quick was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run and RBI while Brady finished 1-for-2 with a run and three RBI on a homer. Knox was 1-for-2 with a run while Davis and Michael Edwards both scored runs.

Wyatt Galloway, Edwards and Brady shared the pitching duties.

Piedmont will return to action today, April 2 in a non-region road game against Central Georgia Arts & Athletics at 6 p.m.
