One Dead, One Critical after Weekend Shooting

A female is dead, and a man is in critical condition after gunshots rang out at a home on Burney Drive Saturday night.
Sheriff’s office deputies responded to a call regarding an individual who requested assistance from a neighbor in the Burney Drive area shortly before midnight Saturday. The individual, Vincente Mendez Santamaria, 45, was determined to have gunshot trauma. He was provided medical treatment and subsequently hospitalized.
It was also discovered that Maria Coronel Beltran, 43, was deceased inside of the 60 Burney Drive residence. The residence is owned by Mendez Santamaria.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation of the incident.
The scene was processed until the late afternoon hours of Sunday, March 29, and was released from law enforcement control the following Monday afternoon. An autopsy conducted by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur revealed the cause of death of Coronel-Beltran to be gunshot trauma.
The investigation is active and ongoing, so no additional information can be released at this time.
One incident of financial transaction card fraud and two of identity fraud were reported over the last week to the JCSO, along with a burglary where food was stolen from a residence in Monticello. The alleged perpetrator is known.

•Justin Paul Jenkins, 28, Eatonton—hold for warrant in Putnam Co.
•Dustin Jerome Pittman, 29, Milton, Fla.—suspended vehicle registration, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, obstruction of an officer and removing or affixing license plate with intent to conceal.
