New Building Color
If you have somehow missed the NEW “Monticello News” headquarters in downtown Monticello, please report directly to the closest opthamologist.
For many a year, “The News” inhabited the narrow, dark, one-story brick building next door. And then, Editoress Kathy Mudd decided to make the bold leap and leap she did—about 50 feet.
Renovations to The Tillman House as locals referred to the former restaurant building began in earnest last year. New windows, doors, walls were installed while the exterior remained virtually the same until…
Surely Ms. Mudd while perusing color chips to choose in selecting the paint for the exterior of her building came upon the color, “Coral Reef,” and was magically transported to a comfortable cabana chair staring out at the Gulf. The gentle waves licked her toes as she read the description of the color, “Coral Reef,” “upbeat and optimistic, celebrate a time for renewal and is the perfect melange of pink, orange and red that can be used to liven up any space.” Amen! And after all, it is the official color of the year.
Paint chips and paint on entire large buildings are not same. Painting began and at first it was a fresh addition to the weathered-worn frame building, then board upon board “the perfect melange of pink, orange and red” began to scream louder and louder.
Now “The News” headquarters is finished. Some describe the color of the building as orange although Ms. Mudd still maintains it is coral.
In reality, the color can best be described as somewhere between Orange Nectar and Jeweled Peach, but is probably closer to Tangerine Dream. Yum, they all sound delicious. For sure, downtown Monticello will never be the same!
