Home Sweet Home

Last week during one of those slow rainy afternoons, quite a few Monticellians ventured out to take care of some errands or just to run around as folks in the South call it.

For some the library was a welcomed refuge to use the free internet or to read a magazine while sitting in a cozy corner. Others were involved in high finances at our banks while catching up on the local happenings with employees and friends.

Funny, how a rainy day will bring families out to enjoy a snack or dessert at the DQ or a hot cup of java at the Vanilla Bean while watching the 18-wheelers negotiate the Monticello Roundabout on the Square.

Family Foods and Ingles were both busy. An employee from a local day care had a cart full of fruit drinks and gummy bears probably an afternoon snack for school children who are always hungry when they arrive. Housewives hurriedly checked off their grocery list items while others had some aisle conversations with strangers and acquaintances.

As the street lights began to flicker on, our version of rush hour began, working mothers hurrying home or to pickup the little ones from day care, farmers returning with supplies in the back of their pickups, teenagers in their first cars and trucks driving home from school.

Monticello, it’s Home Sweet Home to us!
