Homecoming Festivities Are Planned

Jasper County High School students will celebrate homecoming October 19-23 with varied activities throughout the week and culminating on Friday evening, Oct. 23, during halftime of the Hurricane football game at Rose Bowl Field.

The theme for the 2015 Spirit Week is “De-throne the Royals” since the Hurricanes will be facing the Bleckley County Royals. On Monday, students will celebrate Independence Day where students can wear camouflage to represent fighting for independence or red, white and blue to show American pride.

Tuesday’s theme will be “Hurricanes Storm the Castle” and students will dress as a superhero or a movie/television character to help overthrow the Royals.

“Those Jokers are Wild” will be the theme for Wednesday’s activities and students should dress as a nerd, dress in neon, or dress as tacky as possible while still meeting dress code.

Thursday will be “Jesterday” and students will “throw back” to a decade before Y2K. Friday will be “Royal Purple Day” and like every Friday at JCHS, students will be showing their school spirit in purple and white.

The number of participants from each grade will be counted each day and those winners will be added to the grade level winners for the hall decorating contest and the float contest. The winner of spirit week will be announced at the homecoming pep rally on Friday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m.

A homecoming dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 11 p.m. at JCHS. Advance tickets are $5 and tickets at the door are $7.

A homecoming parade has been set for Thursday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. beginning at the parking lot of Thomas Persons Hall. The parade will travel down Connor Street, turn left onto Washington Street, through the square, turn left onto Mill Street, then left again onto Greene Street and back to Thomas Persons Hall. The parade will feature the JCHS Marching Hurricanes, members of the homecoming court and Miss Hurricane, and floats and decorated vehicles by each grade and several clubs and organizations.

Following the parade will be the annual powder puff football game at Rose Bowl Field at 7 p.m. The game will feature girls from the freshman and senior classes facing off against girls from the sophomore and junior classes. A number of young men from JCHS will add to the entertainment by serving as cheerleaders. Admission to the powder puff game will be $2 per person and concessions will be available including pizza and Chick-fil-a sandwiches. No athletic passes will be accepted.

The homecoming queen and Miss Hurricane will be crowned during the halftime festivities on Friday evening at Rose Bowl Field. Also, Alumni Night will be conducted prior to kickoff with all former Hurricane players present being recognized before the game and lining up on the field as honorary captains during the coin toss.
