Hello, 2016
Hello, 2016. It will take some time to remember that it is 2016 now. And to add to this whole thinking thing, 2016 is a leap year. Does your computer know it is a leap year? Why is it called a Leap Year if we are not leaping anything, but adding something like a whole day. Questions, questions.
MMXVI, the year of the wood goat and fire monkey, promises to be an extraordinary year full of Breaking News. Remember when Breaking News actually was news that was breaking, right then, something important.
We stopped to listen to the television or radio as they announced something special. Nowadays, we hardly stop as Breaking News has become mundane. Maybe this will be the year when we hear a new phrase to describe an event.
Out with the old, in with the new, new buzz words, new phrases. What will they be? So passe, 2015 phrases, my bad, am I right or am I wrong, selfie, it’s a thing, google it, spoiler alert, the tribe has spoken, you’re fired. No, literally, you are fired.
As of today, we only have 8,616 hours left in 2016, to be precise after adding that extra 24 hours on February 29th. My aunt had a great saying about an hour, “If you are trying to make a decision, take an hour to think about it.” Start adding up all the hours you spend watching television, wandering around the internet and those hours add up. Hours that we will never have again.
This year we will celebrate the 50th Super Bowl. Doesn’t that make you feel old if you remember the first one? The XXXI Summer Olympics, that’s 31st to you and me. But what about some celebrating in the Who Knew column? Take for instance, January is National Healthy Weight Awareness Month, Be Kind to Food Servers Month, California Dried Plum Digestive Health Month, National Hot Tea, Oatmeal and Soup Month.
So far 2016 sounds like more fun than a barrel of monkeys especially when you’re celebrating National Oatmeal Month. Irregardless, not a word, regardless, one never knows what is around the corner otherwise we might never go around the corner. “May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness, come through your door.”
