Jasper County Schools Offer Virtual Learning

Virtual schooling… Distance learning… Online education are different descriptions of education that is a growing national trend in public school districts to provide an online alternative to the brick and mortar classroom for Pre-K through twelfth grade students.

Why? Because now more than ever, parents and students are seeking academic alternatives, and there are more and more solutions from which they can choose. Jasper School District offers a solution in Jasper County Virtual Academy, a program directed by Dr. Angela Gordon. With a slate of other district teachers to help supervise the Academy students, Dr. Gordon is able to monitor the progress of participants as they prepare for college and career.

Virtual school allows students to work at a self-paced, individualized and engaging environment while staying in the community. The school resources are available for students as needed and faculty provides instruction as questions arise.

The Jasper County Virtual Academy provides these options to students and parents who are looking for an alternative to traditional education. Any 6th-12th grade student who lives within Jasper County may apply to Jasper County Virtual Academy, which is tuition free. Students from surrounding counties may apply, but must pay tuition.

Online learning may not be for everyone because it requires a great deal of self-discipline and self-monitoring which are characteristics of independent learners. Online classes also require a great deal of reading and interacting with others through the use of discussion boards and instant messaging.

There is an application process for Virtual School that begins with the regular school schedule but for more information contact Dr. Gordon at agordon@jasper.k12.ga.us or 706-468-6350, ext. 121.
