Two Participate in Art Exhibit
Seniors Katie Alewine and Hailey Seay of Jasper County High School were accepted to participate in the 2016 Protege Art Exhibit at the Macon Museum of Arts and Science.
Katie received an honorable mention and was accepted for the second year in the two-dimensional category and Hailey exhibits for the first time qualifying in the three-dimensional category.
This is an opportunity for students to exhibit their work on the same museum walls as the great master painters like Picasso and Van Gogh as well as contemporary artists shaping the modern art world.
Working with other school systems, the students entered works in the juried competition, which is judged by a professional artist. Their work is celebrated in an exhibition in one of the museum’s galleries and recognized with an Awards Presentation. Each of the winners will also receive a monetary prize to apply to art supplies or education needs.
The exhibit opens Friday, Jan. 29 and will run through February.
Both Katie and Hailey have been invited to attend an artist workshop at Mercer University in February with Studio Arts Assistant Professor Eric O’Dell.
