Valentine’s Day

Here’s fair warning to procrastinators, Valentine’s Day is only a few days away. Don’t get caught getting the leftover gifts and cards after the culling.

How this special day has evolved is quite interesting and full of myths. The day of love is named after Saint Valentine who encouraged young men and women to marry even though it had been banned by the Roman emperor. Valentine was killed for his efforts, but thousands of years later we celebrate love in his name.

What to buy the person you love, that is the question. Certainly not an easy task considering these gifts can back fire.

Flowers and candy are most popular for women, but jewelry is also welcome. Spend some money on your honey, it’s a great investment. Everyone enjoys attention and gifts, surprise someone with a thoughtful gift. Teach your children by showing them that we should love one another.

A Shakespearean sonnet written in iambic pentameter expresses love as, “So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee.”

Happy Valentine’s, Oh, Monticello!
