Dual Enrollment Meeting Is Held
Despite the freezing temperature, the theater at the Jasper County High School was nearly full for the dual enrollment informational meeting conducted last week.
Students in 9–12 grades heard a variety of speakers talking about the program that partners with Southern Crescent Technical and Georgia Military Colleges to give students a head start into college courses that are no cost to the student. Students have the opportunity to earn a college level associate’s degree at the same time a high school diploma is earned. The student can enter college at the sophomore level to finish a bachelor’s degree or enter the work force with college credit displayed on a resume.
The Jasper dual enrollment is funded by grants to benefit the child’s education with the school system guiding the advancement program.
The program is administered by counselors, Amy Cox and Jessica Sanders, and has a current 63 students enrolled. The counselors hosted the meeting and had several students speaking to the group about the program. After the meeting, the colleges had information tables outside the theater to share with students more details.
The application deadline for the 2016–2017 dual enrollment school year is April 11.
