Happy BIrthday
I celebrated a big birthday this week. Yep, I turned the big 6-0 Tuesday. And to celebrate, my family gave me a surprise birthday party Saturday night at Hunter Pope Country Club.
I was not in the best spirits about getting old. I was not ready to be 60. I had a very stressful week last week, without the anticipation of that big birthday. So, throw that in, and no celebration was planned (to my knowledge), I was just having a big ole private pity party.
Guess what? Sixty is not so old. Lots of people at my party had already survived 60. And, yes, when you are 20, 60 seems old. But, amazingly when you’re 50-something, 60 doesn’t seem old.
But I didn’t start writing this to philosophize. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who came out and helped make my birthday special. And, thank you to all who thought of me, but couldn’t make it, or maybe didn’t know about it.
I don’t know how they pulled it off. I work with Jenny all day every day. I talk to Hannah most days. And, Jimmy has known about it for a while. He’s a lousy liar, but he managed to keep it a secret too.
Lots of friends came to wish me a happy birthday. My aunt and uncle came from Virginia; all my sisters were here, my high school classmates, and my baby girl came from Colorado. I just visited her two weeks ago, because I had no idea she was coming here…she even told me she wasn’t. Wow, what a surprise.
And I got presents! Lots of nice cards and gifts. It was sure nice to be the honoree.
I didn’t set up, clean up or anything. I just enjoyed myself. Thanks to my sisters, daughters, and all else who made my day so special. I love you!
