Mother’s Day

Only three more shopping days until Mother’s Day, so if you don’t want to end up with the greeting card without the envelope or without the right words to express your feelings about Mom, better buy now.

Last year, 786 million dollars was spent on greeting cards for Mom, $24 billion on flowers, and it is the day of the year that has the highest volume of telephone calls.

NRF-National Retail Federation, says that the average spent per Mother this year will be $172.63 up nearly $10 from last year. Cards, flowers, restaurant meals, yes, that amount can add up.

When it comes to mothers and the celebration of such, there is no limit to who qualifies. Many of us have lost our birth mother, some of us never knew our birth mother, there are so many people in our lives that we should celebrate who were there for us, a grandmother, a stepmother, an aunt, a guardian, someone who adopts a child, a foster mother, a teacher. There are so many people.

My Aunt Loyce told me a story that I always remember about how it takes so many to raise a child.

As a child in the 1920s, she rode a mule to school. One day the mule accidentally threw her into a ditch beside the road. A woman who lived nearby saw what happened.

She got another neighbor and they took my aunt to the doctor who discovered her leg was broken. The doctor set the leg and then the neighbors took my aunt home. Yes, it was another time, but there are still stories today about those who come to our rescue.

Mothers and caregivers don’t need you to spend $172.63 on them, just let them know how much you appreciate them in your own personal way.
