Hurricane Matthew

Unfortunately, Hurricane Matthew did not send us any much needed rain, but it did send quite a few people our way who were evacuating from HIM.

Plans for our biennial Girl’s Trip to Tybee Island were cancelled as the manager of the house we rented notified us. He had been told that Tybee had no electricity and had been flooded. The manager had fled to the Atlanta area not knowing when he could return to begin inspections and repairs.

Some friends also fled to our area bringing with them their three cats. Motel rooms can get claustrophobic real fast.

This past Monday residents were told they could return, but to not expect any services. In other words, your survival is up to you.

Personally, my experiences with Hurricane David back in 1979 were not good. If you and your property survive the storm, the aftermath can be horrible as you learn to live without necessities. Water and ice are the premium products everyone wants and yes, gouging and hording does occur regardless of its legality.

Life is not a pretty picture after a few days of no electricity, mainly the lack of air-conditioning, traffic lights, not being able to pump gas and nowadays the internet and cellphone.

Just when you think that everything is on schedule, the weather changes the best laid plans.
