2016 Buzz Words
It will take us all a few days to get used to writing or typing 2017 instead of 2016. After such an exciting and trouble-filled year, surprisingly 2016 slipped gently into the night.
Along with forgetting some events of 2016, please cease and don’t repeat some of the buzz words that were worn out in 2016.
“Transparency,” meaning was to see through easily like a window glass, but now it is to give the idea that government/business is going to be open to the public. Well, it sounds like a good idea.
Another word is trust. Most overused phrase is “Trust me.” Self-explanatory. “Hack,” a word formerly used for a battle weary, worn-out writer, now hack can have a positive or negative meaning such as he hacked a way to make a toothbrush holder out of a paper clip or negatively to describe a hacking of a computer or financial record.
“Breaking news” used to be actual breaking of the regular news for an ultra-important story, now it can be used for anything, mostly a teaser to keep you from reaching for your remote control.
And now for the piece-de-resistance, a phrase and word that takes the honors for worn out buzz word and phrase. “It is what it is” and “Interesting?” No matter the subject or problem, you can end any progress in the conversation by simply saying, “Well, it is what it is.” No argument there. And when confronted with negative comments that beg to be answered with yet another negative comment, just diffuse that notion with a questioning “Interesting?”
Maybe 2017 will bring a new slew of buzz words and phrases, in fact, it’s for sure. Just stay up-to-date with your social media and those 140 character tweets.
