Bunny Hop

The other day while in the line at the grocery store a small boy began to sing a familiar song, “The Bunny Hop.”

He sang, “Put you left foot out, put your right foot out, do the bunny hop, hop, hop, hop.” Every time he got to the last line, “Hop, Hop, Hop” that’s just what he did. He was having so much fun just singing and hopping in the grocery store line. How we envied him and his ability to be uninhibited by the people around him and we all started to smile.

The Bunny Hop is probably the first line dance we learn as children. Then as we get older we get into the Hokey Pokey, more words and more movement and then pretty soon we are doing the Cha Cha Slide, the Wobble. Every year we get a new song associated with a new dance. 40 years ago we were doing the Electric Slide, the Y.M.C.A, the Chicken Dance and then who can forget the Macarena.

Music keeps us moving. A popular late night television show hosts always has his guests singing in the car. Don’t we all sing in the car and the shower or at least hum? It is amazing how good we sound and can really hit the high notes when we are an audience of one.

Karaoke is as popular as ever. One of the most requested karaoke songs is “I Love Rock and Roll” and the sure-hit sing along, “Red Solo Cup.”

Life sure would be dull without our music. Hop, Hop, Hop.
