Two Band Students Excel
Two Jasper County band students participated in the Georgia All-State Band held in Athens this past weekend. Eighth grader Julia Aldridge was third chair baritone in one of the two middle school bands, and eleventh grader Will Robinson was chair trombone in one of the two 11/12 grade bands.
These students had to take part in two separate auditions to be selected for this honor of being among the best on their instruments in the state, regardless of school size or location. Will was the first local band student to ever make All-State Band when he was in the eighth grade, and has made it every year since.
Julia has now become the second local band student to ever receive this honor.
Julia and Will arrived in Athens with their parents on Thursday evening and went straight to their first rehearsal. They continued rehearsing all day on Friday and Saturday morning, and performed concerts on Saturday afternoon and evening. Julia’s band director is Ray Buck and Will’s is Chris Savage.
