Student Gets Paid Internship with NIH
Jessica Moore, a junior at Jasper County High School, has been awarded a paid research internship through the National Institute of Health (NIH).
The NIH/NIDDK Short-Term Research Experience for Underrepresented Persons (STEP-UP) National Coordinating Committee awarded the internship to Jessica and assigned her to the Coordinating Center at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She will have the choice of studying at this location or at an institution closer to her home, which is strongly encouraged.
The program allows the award recipient to select a research mentor at the reputable institution that is chosen to oversee the student’s program progress, while the STEP-UP Director and Program Coordinator at the assigned coordinating center will also provide oversight of all her summer activities, including administrative and programmatic support.
Jessica will receive a stipend during the program and will present her research in Maryland in August. This honor salutes the end of a very competitive application process and she appreciates all the support and guidance received from JCHS staff during the application process for this tremendous opportunity.
