VIA Seeks Mentors
Visions in Action (VIA) seeks mentor volunteers for children who need support to help them deal with day-to-day challenges within the family, school and community.
Visions In Action (VIA) has partnered with the Jasper County Mentor Program (JCMP) to provide mentors to local ethnic students. VIA is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors. Studies reveal that students who meet regularly with mentors are more likely to attend school every day, go on to higher education and become productive members of the community.
In our small community, there is visible evidence of young people who are not college or workforce ready, said the announcement from VIA. They ‘hang out’ at all the usual places. At a time when there are thousands of jobs available, many of our students are not aware of the opportunities at Three Ring Studios and Shire Pharmaceuticals and not prepared to seize them so become a mentor and change the life of a young student, it said.
The Jasper County Mentor Program is a local non-profit organization that offers mentors to children in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The JCMP has been in Jasper County Schools for the past 17 years. Before forming the name, JCMP, and partnering with the school system, the founders, along with some friends, mentored a group of children after school.
VIA is a non-profit organization comprised of graduates of Jasper County schools and selected professionals with proven leadership skills, strong profiles of achievements and commitment to improve students’ academic performance and prepare graduates for success in a highly competitive global environment. VIA has visible and active leadership with proven educational experience.
Quintin Watson serves as VIA leader for this project. He can be contacted at 770-468-6236 to discuss individuals’ availability to serve. as mentors.
