Art & Talent Showcase Set
The Monticello Civic Club will conduct its annual Art & Les Steele Talent Showcase on Friday, March 16 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Jasper County High School auditorium.
Calling all dancers, artists, jugglers, musicians, comedians and singers for the showcase. Rules and entry forms are available now at the schools and Chamber of Commerce office.
?Groups are limited to five or fewer members, and acts are limited to four minutes. Contestants must attend a mandatory rehearsal on Thursday, March 15.
Art contest rules include:
1) Only one contestant per art submission is permitted, and only one submission may be submitted per artist. 2) All contestants must be students in good standing with their respective schools and currently registered in k-12. 3) Art can be submitted in any of the following media: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, metal work, graphic design, and crafts. 4) Art entries must be delivered to the Jasper County High School by the participant or art teacher by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 15. 5) Any art deemed unsuitable or objectionable by the committee will be excluded. 6) Each art entry shall be the original work of the contestant submitting the item.
Talent show rules include:
1) If an act includes a song with words, the lyrics must be submitted in writing with the application. This applies to all types of acts (not just singing). Failure to submit a copy of the lyrics will result in disqualification.
2) Background soundtracks that are used for vocal performances shall be instrumental only (such as karaoke versions). If you are using a recorded background, you must provide it on a playable and cued USB flash drive (we will not accept any other audio devices, such as phones). No vocal backgrounds will be permitted for soundtracks that are used in vocal performances. You should submit your track as track number one and it must be properly edited to fit within the time limits. Failure to submit a musical track on a USB flash drive as requested will result in disqualification.
3) Each act is limited to no more than four minutes. All acts that exceed this time limit shall be disqualified.
4) All participants must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at JCHS. Failure to perform during the mandatory dress rehearsal will result in disqualification.
5) No more than five people per act is permitted (including the accompanist).
6) An individual may compete on his or her own and in one group act OR in two group acts.
7) All contestants must be students in good standing with their respective schools and currently registered in Grades K-12. 8) Any acts deemed unsuitable or objectionable by the talent show committee will be excluded from the competition.
9) Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for the first through third place winners in three classes: grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. 10) Scoring by the judges’ will use the following criteria: a. musicianship/talent: 20 points – includes ability, difficulty, confidence and execution. b. artistry/showmanship: 15 points – includes variety, challenge, and creativity. c. presentation: 15 points – includes poise, intensity, and professionalism.

There is no cost to enter the showcase. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
