Prevent Animal Cruelty

Trouble, our cat, of nearly two years was found lying beside a county road where he would have been killed momentarily. A mere handful of gray kitten with big green eyes was rescued and found a home that early morning.

He tried to make friends with resident pup, Tina, but she firmly rejected him chasing and growling at him. To this day, the two are at odds with each other, but co-exist when there is food or an empty lap. He has grown a little bit, now weighing in at a little below 10 pounds; his back paws are eight inches long, his front paws look like baseball mitts and his whiskers stretch out about five inches on each side of his face.

Tina, our dog, another abandoned animal, was found beside another county road by a neighbor and thrust into my arms saying, “hey, you like dogs.” T was shaking, dirty, covered in fleas and had been attacked, evident from a bleeding wound. When taking pictures of her, I lay a #2 yellow lead pencil in front of her for perspective. She is a couple inches longer than the pencil, Don’t know her age, past history, but it must have been rough as she came to us with mostly rotten teeth. She is down to three teeth now, but that has not squelched her appetite or enthusiasm for treats. She loves to take “a ride” and have the window down with her ears flying in the wind. Smartest dog I have ever had.

Why all these words about animals? April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. Each years millions of animals are abandoned beside roads, tied or chained in yards or worse, ultimate cruelty.

Responsible people take care of their pets properly. The best way to be responsible is to spay or neuter. If you are in looking for a new best friend, go by our animal shelter where there are plenty waiting
