Peplum Is Back
Being a very serious writer, it is important to keep abreast of issues that affect approximately 51% of the population.
Ladies, the Peplum is back. Thank goodness. The peplum covers a world of sins if you get my drift and helps to level the playing field between the string beans, and the, shall we say, more blessed.
For the less fashionistas out there who wonder, alas, ponder, what the heck is a peplum. Webster’s describes it as a piece of fabric that is pleated, flared or gathered and attached at the waist of a woman’s dress, jacket or blouse. Looking back in history, men wore these things during the Elizabethan era, the 1st Elizabeth that is.
Peplums are akin to something our grand and great- grandmothers would never be seen without, an apron. And for our modern girls who ask, “What’s an apron?” Google it.
Some blame Kate Middleton for the return of the peplum, but as we all know, those of us with some worn tread anyways, fashion repeats itself every 20 years. Look for the peplum return in 2038. LOL
In conclusion, and not a word too soon, an ode to denim jeans. They come in many colors, lengths, from bell bottoms to skinny leg, from high to low waist and now stretchy. Let’s face it we owe a lot to Levi Strauss for the fashion craze he unknowingly began in 1873 with his original 501’s. Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent wished he had invented them. Neil Diamond sang, “Forever in Blue Jeans”. And we all said, “Amen”.
