Dreams

Dreams. One of those mysterious things that happens to all of us including our pets. When my pup dreams, she does low, little yelps and wiggles her legs as if running somewhere, probably to Kansas.

Our cat rarely dreams, but when he does he wiggles his paws and gives out low growls, probably imagining he is chasing a tiger or something. As for us, humans experience dreams sometimes every night, some even in color. Children fall asleep and look so peaceful until a sudden dream catches them and they wake with a start.

Experts in the field of dreams explain dreams as a time when our brain does a dump of previous experiences that have gotten all mixed up in the deep recesses of the brain. But what about the ones that involve loved ones long gone? So real that when you awake you would swear it had happened. Some dreams are horrible and you awake in a sweat with the covers tossed about.

Memories are sometimes repressed, but come out in our dreams. This time of year, memories of Christmas future, present and past, like the famous Dickens story about Scrooge, may mix into your dreams. Children dream of gifts Santa will leave them under the tree. Parents dream of the children, now grown, as they opened their gifts. Where did that gleam in their eyes go? Then there are day dreams.

Or how about making dreams come true? How many times have you been able to do that for yourself or for someone else?

Now, Sweet Dreams, Monticello.
