Veni, Vidi, Vici

Resolution—a firm decision to do or not do something. If you have made New Year resolutions in the past, honestly, did you expect to keep them? Lose weight, be more positive, take long walks, meditate, learn a new language, save money, etc.

In utopia, where we don’t live, all the above resolutions would be effortless.

Every day brings new challenges as we do not live on the island of one.

We hear a lot about downsizing meaning to make something smaller, whether it be housing or ourselves and decluttering meaning removing things you do not need, whether it is in your home or your mind. These two terms have inspired numerous newspaper, magazine and internet articles.

After reading, aforementioned articles, it only takes minutes for our minds to rationalize. If I don’t downsize, then I can keep all this clutter and maybe no one will recommend as a subject for the cable show, Hoarders.

Clean a corner, give away, throw away, recycle, write a letter, walk around the block, drink more water. Start, starting is the challenge.

And then maybe by 2020 we can also use Julius Caesar’s famous phrase,

“Veni, Vidi, Vici,” meaning “I came, I saw, I conquered.” Even if it only means parting with our 10-year old Southern Living magazines.
