International Women’s Day

Hello, to the Girls and Women, because tomorrow is International Women’s Day when the world celebrates the achievements of women encompassing social, economic, cultural, political and personal.

The theme this year is “Balance for Better” to emphasize the need for more balance in our society such as salaries, home responsibilities, and jobs.

Hard to believe in this day, but women were not allowed to vote until 1920. It took the 19th Amendment to our Constitution to give us this right. The struggle for equality has never ended.

Before World War II, most women were homemakers, but with the men off to war, industry looked for replacement workers and women met the demand. After the war, women were not satisfied to go home and just resume their homemaking duties as they had now had the taste of freedom, making their own money, making decisions that would affect their lives. Today, women still seek balance, equal pay for equal work.

Women continue to wear many hats, mother, wife, making a home, cooking, chauffeur, coaches, judges, editors, cashiers, along with many non-traditional hats in the military, police and fire departments, pilots, on and on.

Give the Women a hand!

And here’s an important reminder as we lose an hour this Sunday, March 10th, as Daylight Savings Time Begins. Spring forward
