Welcome Home, Trisha

Isn’t it exciting. The whole town is abuzz. Monticello’s favorite daughter—Trisha Yearwood—comes home tomorrow to kick off a three day road trip with an album release party.

The Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Development Authority are working together with city and county officials, merchants, and townspeople to welcome Trisha home, and welcome all the visitors who will visit our town to see Trisha.

Businesses have been encouraged to spruce up, and a massive clean-up effort began last week. It’s hoped that the cleanliness with last!

I’m hesitant to write too much in this space as others outside Jasper County may read and I don’t want them to know we had to clean up. I want them to think it looks this good all the time. (It’s just like company coming.)

And it is exciting. It’s exciting for the town to put its best foot forward. It’s exciting for everyone to work together to make this homecoming for Trisha a success. And, it’s exciting to be in the place where she is releasing her new CD after a long hiatus.

Many of us have Trisha’s cookbooks (some even autographed), and have enjoyed her cooking shows and expertise. But, I for one, am glad she’s returning to another of her strengths, and that’s putting that beautiful voice to work. From “She’s in Love with the Boy,” on through her succeeding hits and several CDs, Trisha wooed us with that beautiful voice. And she picked the best songs to record. She is a great songstress.

And, as much as we’ve enjoyed her cooking shows, and her cookbooks, I for one am glad she’s going back to her musical roots and presenting us with a brand new CD. I know it will be wonderful.

I know a lot has happened in Trisha’s life since she was singing and touring all the time, and I suspect the release of a new CD means touring again. I know I wouldn’t look forward to that, and I don’t have a clue if it is necessary.

I personally am not much any more for big crowds and traveling to far-away venues, but occasionally it happens. (Remember I went to see Reba in Las Vegas just a couple months ago), but I certainly still enjoy good music, and hope I do until I die.

I want to join the whole community in saying Welcome Home, Trisha! Thank you for choosing home to kick off this next stage in your life.

Readers, I hope you will join me Friday in welcoming her back, whether you come uptown and get CDs signed or fly a banner saying welcome or line the street to say hello, let’s let Trisha know we’re proud of her!

Several people have asked me if Trisha’s famous husband, Garth Brooks will be with her. I have told them, I seriously doubt it. He has his own tour going on currently, and she’s coming here from an appearance in New York. And, this is about Trisha!

Many of us who have seen her rise through the ranks are indeed impressed by her husband, as well, but Trisha has quite the talent herself. I’d like to see them do an album together, but I don’t know if that will ever happen. They have collaborated on a few songs, including one on this CD.

It’s interesting when you talk to people about Trisha and Garth. Several people here have met Garth who had no idea he was a country music superstar. I’ve heard stories, like one time they were at a funeral, and an older member of the communityintroduced herself to Garth and said she didn’t think she knew him. She didn’t know she had met country music royalty when she met him. He was Trisha’s husband.

One lady called after last week’s paper came out and wanted to know if they were still married since there was no mention of him in the news article. They’re married, and they both know how to make great music. I can’t wait to hear Trisha’s latest!
