The Big Apple

Hello to all, I am currently in New York City seeing the sights and some Broadway shows.

Yesterday, was 9/11 and the first time I have ever been here on that date. Most of us remember where we were when we saw the unbelievable sight of those towers collapsing. Barely a year earlier on 9/17 our group had eaten at Windows on the World located on the 106th floor of Building One of the World Trade Center.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning when we rode the elevator from level seven all the way to the 106th floor without stopping. As the elevator doors opened we knew then why the restaurant was called Windows on the World, it truly was.

Tragically, all those people working and dining at the restaurant that morning died.

We have seen the Broadway play, “Ain’t Too Proud, The Life and Times of the Temptations” and this afternoon we will see “Phantom of the Opera,” being performed six days a week since opening in 1988. But in New York City, you don’t have to go to a theater to see a performance, there are performers everywhere. To see the most famous square in the world full of performers, hustlers, and tourists, Times Square, go to http://www.earthcam.com/times square.

Tomorrow we are going to the MET, Metropolitan Museum of Art, to see an exhibit called, “Play It Loud, Instruments of Rock and Roll,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.

Afterwards we are walking through Central Park to pay homage to John Lennon at Strawberry Fields at the “Imagine” mosaic installation. Later, we are attending a fashion show.

There is much to do here, so little time, so many people. Be home soon.
