Happy Father’s Day
Father, dada, dad, daddy, pop, paw, lots of names we call them. His identity changes from Mike, Dave, or Jim almost immediately as soon as he becomes a father. Not many fathers introduce themselves to their baby, “Hey, kid, just call me Tom.”
What did your father teach you or later on in life what did you teach him? Holding on to their large fingers, you take your first steps. He holds his hands around your little hands as you try to hit the baseball. Usually he is assigned to teach you how to drive.
And when you take the big step in life, he may walk you down the aisle and say when asked who gives this woman to be married to this man, “I do,” whether he means it or not. Or he may be the man beside you as his best man and hands you the ring as you take a wife. Did he realize when he first saw you so many years ago that he was accepting such a job?
Of course, there are biological fathers, step fathers, adoptive fathers, uncles, grandfathers, and many men who become father figures such as coaches, teachers, or ministers. A modern reference is they are influencers.
This Sunday, June 21, we recognize those we know as fathers. Memories to be made, memories we have of fathers. Don’t worry about those gifts. Dads appreciate anything including a good meal.
