Fall Is in the Air
Autumn is here, leaves falling, some pretty wildflowers along the road. If you have no destination in mind, take a walk or ride around Jasper County to take in some beauty.
Seen recently while driving around were some red spider lilies. These are not native to Georgia, but rather to China and Japan. The flowers are brilliant, red, delicate lilies on top of leafless stalks. How did you get to Georgia?
Also this year, a rather interesting wildflower appeared in the yard, a long vine with small clusters of white snowball flowers on the end. Some websites called it a New Jersey tea plant and said the leaves were dried and made into tea in Colonial Days.
Of course, what Fall would be complete without large fields of goldenrod that have a bad reputation for causing your allergies to act up, but no, say the experts. It was used as medicine in early days to make a poultice to treat everything from arthritis to hemorrhoids.
Thousands of small yellow daisies are blooming now on most roadways around Jasper County.
So sad to hear that the Deer Festival has been canceled —another victim of the Virus.
As thousands head to the North Georgia mountains to go leaf peeking, just wait a few days and we can enjoy the show right here at home. Cooler nights, all kinds of apples in the store with lovely names, Gala, Braeburn, Jonagold, Honey Crisp, Rome and Granny Smith, pumpkins, all sizes and colors. Breaking News—winner for largest pumpkin at the Half Moon Bay Festival in California was from Minnesota and weighed in at 2,350 pounds.
What did the one leaf say to the other leaf, “I’m Fall-ing for you.” And a special Happy Birthday to you October-born babies especially my mother who will celebrate 103 years old.
