A Variety of Slings
The first piece of hardware you’ll need is a sling; without a sling, you won’t be able to connect your machinery to the item you’re moving. There are several types of slings, and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Every company should have at least one web sling, round sling, and chain sling. A web sling will be suitable for most day to day lifts. A round sling, on the other hand, is reinforced with a continuous loop of polyester that provides additional strength. The additional polyester also acts as a sleeve that protects the material you’re lifting. Finally, the chain slings are reserved for your most extreme lifts, as they’re the strongest and most durable slings.
Turnbuckles, Hooks, and Eye Bolts
Once you have your sling, you can begin looking at additional hardware. You’ll first need a turnbuckle, as it adjusts the tension put on the wire rope that attaches to your machinery. Without a turnbuckle, your wire rope could either snap or have too much slack and thus be ineffective. There are dozens of hooks to choose from; you should have at least one grab hook, one eye hook (with and without a latch), and a swivel hook. Finally, eye bolts are vital to your lifting operation, as they provide stability and security. Choosing the appropriate eye bolt for your application can be challenging if you don’t know what to look for.
