JCMS Is Awarded Two Grants
Jasper County Middle School’s STEAM coordinator ScottiAnn Benton has received great news—JCMS is the recipient of a $300 grant from the Georgia Science Teachers Association. This money will be used to purchase trail cameras to collect data for various independent research projects conducted by JCMS students this year.
In addition, JCMS is the recipient of a $1,000 Middle School Research Teachers grant. The grant money will be used to purchase laboratory kits and supplies. Mrs. Benton presented at the national Middle School Research Teachers Conference on the independent research program at JCMS.
JCMS was also selected to receive 24 scales on behalf of LW Measurements, an organization that Mrs. Benton has networked with through the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). This donation is not the first the school has received from this organization.
Finally, JCMS was selected to participate in the Adopt a Cow program from the Discover Dairy program. The cow actually stays at the farm and the class receives virtual updates. The students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual tour of the farm where the cow was expected to be born on October 16.
