What Should I Give Up for Lent?
To God be the Glory! To the Monticello News staff, Thank You; Be Safe.
Many of us try to give up chocolate? Ice cream? Soda? And so on, but these things are only for the desire of the flesh for a time. Give up something that will make you happy and full of joy instead of fats. Philippians 2:14& 15 says Do everything without complaining or arguing, so we may become blameless and pure.
Ephesians 4:31 Turn to forgiveness; Give upon bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, along with every form of malice, hatred, gossiping. Control our tongue.
St. Matthew 6:25 Give up worry. Trust in God. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…who by worrying can not add a single hour to his life?”
Deuteronomy 31:8 Be full of hope. The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with your: he will never leave us or forsake us. Do not be afraid so give up discouragement.
St. Matthew 6:33 says
{But} seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you-me-us as well.
Amen-Amen-Amen.
Things to consider at Lent and throughout the year.
Kindness. John 13:1-17 cites Jesus washing the feet of his disciples
Do you understand what I have done? You call me your teacher and Lord, and you should, because that is who I am. And if your Lord and teacher has washed your feet, you should do the same for each other. I have set the example, and you should do for each other exactly what I have done for your.
I tell you for certain that servants are not greater than their master, and messengers are not greater than the one who sent them. You know these things and God will bless you, if you do them.
John 18::1-12 speaks of the arrest of Jesus, then John 19:19-30 speaks of His death.
Jesus’ mother stood beside His cross with her sister and Mary the wife of Clopas. Mary Magdalene was standing there too. When Jesus saw his mother and his favorite disciple with her, he said to his mother, This man is now your son.” Then he said to the disciple, She is now your mother. From then on, that disciple took her into his own home.
Jesus knew that he had now finished his work. And in order to make the Scriptures come true, he said,”I am thirsty!” A jar of cheap wine was there. Someone then soaked a sponge with the wine and held it up to Jesus mouth on the stem of a hyssop plant. After Jesus drank the wine, he said, “Everything is done!” He bowed his head and died.
Next is the story of the resurrection, John 19:38-20:10. John 20:11-18 tells of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene.
And we know from our study of the Bible that angels are real. After Jesus was taken up into a cloud. The Scriptures Say “What are you men from Galilee standing here and looking up into the sky? Jesus has been taken to heaven. But he will come back in the same way that you have seen him go.”
