Out Of Many, One
Or its more familiar Latin translation, E pluribus unum, as most of us know this phrase since it has appeared on over 86 billion of our minted coins, flags and seals of Congress and most recently the title of former President George Bush book, “Out of Many, One: Portraits of American Immigrants.”
Recently, The Monticello News was awarded Business of the Year by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and of all the superlative phrases to describe this newspaper it has to be E pluribus unum, because it describes the many aspects of life that are written about each week, the opinions expressed, the photos, the businesses that advertise.
Although the purported soothsayers predict the demise of the newspaper, the kind you hold in your hand, to be replaced by online newspapers written by who knows who and what is their agenda or bias. If you don’t like something in The Monticello News or have a beef, you can write a letter to the editor and it will be published. If you have an event, you want to publicize send in the information or better still just stop at the big ?peach, orange? building just before the town square.
Pictures of couples celebrating their 50th Wedding anniversary or a birthday, and so many other special days, this newspaper will tell the world.
And writing about the world, every week much of The Monticello News is put online and no matter where you are in the world, you can read what is going on here.
So, this newspaper is not just composed and written by a few, but by many, including you if you so desire.
Congratulations to The Monticello News for this recognition and may it long be a beacon in this world with a lot of dark corners.
