A Coming Economic Earthquake

Introduction: Do you feel the tremors—the financial shifting under your feet? Will we ever see an economic boycott in our lifetime? You have got to admit there appear to be storm clouds looming on the horizon.

At the present time, we are experiencing a time of inflation (consumer prices are up 7.5% compared to January of last year—this is the highest inflation increase in 40 years). Perhaps there will be more shortages; i.e. fertilizer…corn…etc. Either way, the Bible predicts we are swiftly approaching a day when food and wages will be scarce.

Besides that, a world ruler will form a politically driven (global) government backed up by the military and will be able to control the world by assigning a tracking system for every person on earth. Those who do not cooperate will be executed. Take a look at these three biblical narratives (time frames), which will transpire in the near future.

1) Before the tribulation, famines will come—“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places” (Matthew 24:7). Even though these events intensify as the seven-year tribulation unfolds, Jesus said all these things were the beginning of “birth pangs” (Greek – ?d??, o-deen’, “sorrows” which means pain and suffering [Matthew 24:8]).

Any mother who is ready to deliver a baby knows that the “birth pangs” will increase in rapidity and severity. Speaking of birth pangs, one of which is wars and rumors of wars—Russia appears to be on the brink of invading and overthrowing Ukraine.

2) During the tribulation, which shall come upon the earth as described in Revelation 6-18, Jesus Christ will open the third seal—Out of this seal of judgement comes a black horse rider with a pair of balances in his hand announcing what is to come. John is inspired to write, “And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine” (Revelation 6:3).

The word “measure” is ??????, (khoy’-nix), which means a dry measure of less than a quart or a Greek dry measure, which is about 1.92 pints. The word “penny” is d???????, (day-nar’-ee-on), which is a Roman coin. A denarius is a small Roman silver coin. The word “barley” is krith? – barley, the grain eaten by common people; it was known as the poor man’s bread.

Conversely, wheat was the more expensive grain. Some commentators suggest that barley was used mainly as feed for horses. This economic crisis can be seen now, but will be much more evident during the tribulation.

Presently, the Federal Reserve is playing catch up to try to head off the inflation. With a $29 trillion debt (almost 30 trillion), plans are in the making to perhaps implement a digital coin. China has already done this (the Yuan), which spells government control.

The Federal Reserve here in the U.S. is considering doing the same with CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) in order to compete with China. With both a tracking system and the ability to control the world’s resources, including its food supplies—the Antichrist will usurp his authority as a global leader. However, his days will be numbered.

Keep in mind, these worldwide “crippling” events will happen shortly after the “catching away” of the church, otherwise known as the bride of Christ (1Thessalonians 4:16-18). This rapture could take place at any moment according to the Bible. Therefore, it might be just around the corner. Certainly, the stage is being set. Precursors are happening before our very eyes on a daily basis—Israel, Russia, Iran, China, etc.

3) At the end of the tribulation, Jesus Christ will return as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!—“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:19-20).

The global agenda of Satan’s Superman—the Antichrist, will be swiftly interrupted by the King of Glory. All of his plans will come to a screeching halt as the coming King—Jesus Christ will throw both the Antichrist and the false prophet into the lake of fire to be tormented forever. Satan’s judgement will follow after the 1,000-year reign of our Lord (Revelation 20:10), when he is sentenced to the lake of fire forever.

However, according to John’s writing in the book of Revelation, the good news will unfold in eternity future with the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven. This is every Christian’s promise from the God of the Bible—Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: With these pre-warnings from our Lord Jesus, a sense of urgency ought to motivate every Christian to live in the light of these biblical truths, as well as share these unchanging truths with those who are not prepared to face death and eternal judgment. Our hope and eternal destination is found in a personal relationship with Jesus, which comes by turning from our sin, and by faith—trusting in His redeeming blood shed on the cross. And because Jesus arose from the dead, every person who trusts in Him is reconciled to God. Let’s get buckled up to JESUS because we are going for a rough ride!
