Fulfilling God’s Plan for You

The topic of conversation this time of year often revolves around future plans, dreams, and goals in light of it being graduation season. While most people engaging in these conversations are high school and college graduates, people of every age and stage should always plan and dream big all year long because God has a great plan for each of our lives. I don’t know about you, but I want to finish my life saying, “I’m glad I did!” instead of, “I wish I had…”

Maybe you have graduated, received the degrees, landed the job, married your soulmate, and built a life for yourself, but I must tell you that there is more to your life than all of those milestones. God has a unique purpose for your life greater than you and your best-laid plans. He has plans for eternity!

If you are going to fulfill God’s plans for your life, three simple words may be helpful to you: purpose, potential, and power. You can fulfill God’s specific plan for your life when you keep these three “Ps” at the forefront of your mind.

God created you for a specific purpose that only you can fulfill because of the people you encounter, the experiences you gain, and the gifts you have. His purpose for you goes beyond success to significance. Remaining focused on your purpose will always be difficult because everything in this world seeks to steal and redirect your attention.

But I’m happy to report that you can overcome the world’s tempting pull by truly knowing yourself and being honest about your purpose. The world may tell you what’s desirable or popular, but your purpose is not tied to worldly standards. Don’t get stuck asking yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself, “What makes me come alive?” – and then go do it! Knowing your passions and God-given gifts will help you fulfill your purpose in life.

While you may know your passions and understand your giftings, there is a strong chance you will still hinder yourself from reaching your full potential. Here’s why – God’s plan for your life will always require more than you can do in your own strength. Therefore, you may see the direction of His plan and think, “That’s not for me. I can’t do that.” You’re correct, you can’t on your own, but God can help you do it all and so much more. Don’t limit your potential because of your limited perspective. Remember, you have to keep growing no matter how tall your grandpa was!

You see, God wants to show you great and mighty things, and He wants to lead you down the most incredible paths, but you must remember the power you have inside that helps you control your attitude and words. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he,” therefore, there is tremendous power in positive thinking. But there is so much power in the words you speak as well. The Bible says that “death and life are in the power of the tongue,” so you must be sure to speak life-giving words over yourself and your future!

I hope you will be encouraged to look ahead with great focus on the purpose, potential, and power that has been graciously given to you by God. Regardless of your age or stage of life, you can be excited about the future God has for you because if you have a pulse, He has a plan!
