Find Somewhere to Plug in and Watch God Work
Finding a friend group can be difficult to find. If you have a high school student, you’ve probably found out that the friend group changes as often as the Georgia weather does.
For us adults, it’s often just as difficult. Allow me to point all of us in a direction that we maybe haven’t considered, the local church. Yes, you read that correctly, the local church might be just that place you need to look to find that group that is meant just for you!
Don’t worry, this isn’t a sales pitch for one church or the other but instead, a plea for each of us to allow Christ to guide a portion of our lives that maybe we don’t often consider, the people we surround ourselves with. We find ourselves telling our children to be careful of who they associate with but is it something that we adults consider?
Yes, church is a place where we draw closer to the Lord but it can also be a place where we can find accountability….if we allow it. We can find spiritual friendship that strengthens our walk with the Father. We can find the people we need right when we need them the most.
I love the words that we find in John chapter 15 as it relates to finding Godly people to associate ourselves around. It says, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” Friends, I believe that this is the type of friendship all of us should be chasing. We should love as we have been loved first. We must care in a way that we have never cared before. Just as Christ did for us, we should do the same.
My plea for all of us is that we find folks that are chasing Jesus too. Our community is full of churches that are ready to welcome you with open arms. I pray that God will lead you to that place that fits you and your family. Allow yourself to plug in and walk alongside those who want to grow in their walk with Jesus with you. May the Lord guide you along this journey.
