Excitement Abounds

This is an exciting week…no, I’m not moving into my new house…that will be a really exciting week.

But, Dairy Queen, an institution in this town, moved into its new home last week, and opened to the public Monday morning.

There was a “soft opening” last Friday and Saturday for friends and family, and I got to see the gleaming new building. I even got to tour the huge kitchen, see the “clam” at work, and view the large freezer.

The “clam” is the new device to cook most, if not all, of the meats, and it does it to perfection. Manager Rita Goodman showed me around, showed me how it worked, and impressed me in general with the set-up. The dining room is airy and welcoming, and I’m sure it was busy Monday morning. (I had a doctor’s appointment so I missed the early morning crowd.)

Several people visited the “old” Dairy Queen on its last day and posted the photos on Facebook, and I’m sure just as many did the same thing on opening day.

Speaking of moving into my new house, I keep wondering what I will appreciate the most…after the washer and dryer which are undoubtedly the most sought after amenity.

I think the spacious refrigerator, with ice maker may be the next best thing. Or maybe just the joy of having enough room to dress in the bedroom.

Temperature control will be nice. Right now the air blows hard in the main living area, so it’s super cool when I sit at the table, but warm most everywhere else.

Many of you have asked about when we will move. Well, some days it seems it will be next week, and other days it looks like it will be a month away. I’m still waiting on countertops, which are necessary to put in the sink and stovetop, and of course to live there.

That’s the last big thing, but then there’s lots of little things. Knobs and handles on the cabinets. Door knobs throughout the house. Trim here and there. Jimmy just called the carpet people today and pushed them back another week, because we want to be sure workers are through tracking mud in before we put the carpet down.

But, the time will come, I’m certain of it. I’ve said many times in this downsizing process that living in the camper has been great to prepare me to live in my new, smaller home. It’s much smaller than the old one…but it’s much larger than the camper!

Meanwhile, how about those Braves…oh I didn’t mention that perk of moving into the house. We’ll get the television out of storage, hook up some reception and I can actually watch the Braves! That will be super-terrific.
