Christmas in July
Yes, when it’s 93 degrees in the shade in Monticello, what we need is a month of Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel where there is always snow, albeit, fake. Amazingly, the snow in these movies is always gleaming and white instead of gritty, dirty and sloppy after a day or so.
You want some love. In these movies you need not look far. There is always a handsome, lonely widower or a beautiful, rich widow, a workaholic career man or woman, a struggling shop owner who just needs some magic to turn his/her shop around, an orphan, you get the picture. All these mindless plots keep rolling along with the 31 days of July.
If you missed “9 Kittens for Christmas,” not to worry, grab yourself a hot cup of cocoa and a big sugar cookie, and wait, it will repeat. The plot, it is Christmas Eve and the local good-looking fireman finds a box of adorable kittens, nine kittens named after Santa’s reindeer. What to do?
The hunk of a fireman who just loves kittens and a very nice looking kitten-loving lady find love while finding homes for the kittens and also for themselves.
Spoiler alert: They keep the black and white kitten, Ah, named Rudolph.
Holy, Peppermint sticks, one of the worst of the worst had to be “Christmas at Graceland” starring Kellie Pickler. I watched to catch glimpses of my hometown, Memphis. Indeed, it was filmed there in the heat and humidity of the summer. Kellie sang “Silent Night” over and over while telling her story to her daughter who accompanied her to the magical Graceland where she, of course, ran into an old flame. Who could have imagined that happening?
When is Hallmark going to discover Monticello? Our square is perfect for romance and covered in fake snow in July who could ask for more. Story plot, one of the million truck drivers who circle the square every day breaks down and a beautiful store owner/cook/cashier/etc. gets him help just in time for the Christmas singers to amass in the square. Why it is Jingle all the way.
Well, you only have three days left to get in the Christmas spirit and start buying those presents and what better way than to watch 72 hours of Christmas in July movies. Maybe we can get Candace Cameron Bure who has 25 of those movies under her belt to star in our movie, “Cousin Vinny’s Christmas”.
Have A Holly, Jolly July, Y’all
