JCHS FFA Team Competes at Career Event
The Jasper County High School FFA competed in various Career Development Events on September 29 at Camp John Hope in Fort Valley.
Maegan Stanley represented the chapter in the Employment Skills event, where she placed first in the Area 3 competition. In this contest, participants must submit a resume, cover letter, and job description. The top 10 in the Area moved on to the interview portion of the event, where she landed the top spot. Maegan will move on to compete at the state level in December.
Kensley Delk and Ginger Calkins competed in the Floral Design competition. Participants in this contest complete a floral arrangement given a scenario, ID 25 flowers and tools, and take a written test over the floral industry. Calkins placed 15th in the Area 3 Junior event, and Delk placed 8th in the Senior event.
Reid McMichael competed in the Area 3 Tractor Driving event. McMichael drove a tractor through a timed course, completed a test over tractor maintenance and repairs, and completed a problem solving task using an equipment manual. He placed third in the area out of 22 competitors.
JCHS FFA had a team of four compete in the Meats Evaluation event.
Students are challenged to identify retail cuts of meat, judge three placing classes, and determine yield grade factors. Participants in this event were Montana Puckett, Faith Cook, Sarah Skinner, and Respress Morton. The team placed 12th in the area event.
