Thank You, Loretta
That country gem, Loretta Lynn, has found her peace at last, and left us with some of the most truly American songs brimming over with truth. reality of love and lost love, with many songs about the power of women in relationships.
A five foot, two inch powerhouse who stood up against the music and movie industry to tell her story in song. She sings if your looking at country, your looking at me, but that was the way she got into the backdoor of the Grand Ole Opry.
When on stage, she rared back and challenged the establishment, don’t mess with me, I’ll send you to Fist City. She said if you hit me, I’ll hit back.
One of Loretta Lynn’s most adoring fans lives right here in Jasper County, Hannah Powell.
She is a most unlikely fan. Hannah was born and raised in Germany, but country music spans the world. Hannah said that when the movie, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” was shown at her local theatre in the 1980s, she went Friday, Saturday and Sunday for three weeks. Hannah was captured by the spirit of Lynn. She says Loretta Lynn never changed, her voice, her outlook on life, had joy in her family.
She never bowed to the record companies. She remained the same for six decades. Lynn never had a music lesson, never studied with a lyricist, just one of those rarified people that are born with IT.
Hannah got to go to Lynn’s 3,500 acre ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.for a tour of the house and grounds. Whenever she sings at a karaoke session around here, she sounds pretty close to Loretta Lynn with a remarkable country twang..
The leaves are beginning to change colors, some letting go and falling to the ground. Soon we will hear the beautiful sound of the leaf blowers that replaces the sound of the weed eaters. Jasper County will soon become a glorious kaleidoscope of orange, green, red, and magenta. No need to leave the county to become a leaf peeper.
“I hung on as long as I could to the tree branch. Other leaves gave up early, but I was determined to be the last. Oh, there were some leaves around me that said, why bother, just take the dive. I clung tight until a surprise wind came along and me and some more leaves just gave up.”
Happy Fall.
