Holiday Season In Full Swing

Wow, 24 days to Christmas and counting!

I’m ready, I guess. Though it feels like I am still recovering from Thanksgiving.

The kids and I didn’t have a quiet Thanksgiving at home this year instead we hit the road. We ventured south to visit family not seen in awhile including their brother and two nephews visiting from California who they hadn’t seen in three or four years. Though the visit was brief, it was good. It’s amazing how fast kids can grow.

The holidays are always a busy time for me because we are usually off to somewhere to visit family, near and far, which means I am driving because I am the only driver in our trio. But not for long, Robyn turns 15 in 11 days!

She’s on the countdown to a learner’s license and hopefully a “license-license” next year. She’s ready and I am too. It will be nice to have another driver, a safe driver, to relinquish the wheel to.

Jenny has been telling me for months that my mind might change when she actually gets a license. Instead of complaining about driving all the time, I will then be worrying about her driving and safety when she’s not with me, my co-worker says. She is right, but I can’t keep her 14 forever.

I think for Christmas, or at least the days leading up to it, this year we will volunteer somewhere meaningful. Robyn did some volunteering with Girl Scouts several years ago that has really stuck eith her. She helped at an impromptu food, clothing, toiletry drive for the homeless in Downtown Atlanta. It sparked something in her because volunteering has become her thing especially when it involves helping those in dire straits.

Robyn was awarded the Girls Scouts Silver Award last month for her project involving aid with the Rainbow Shelter in Covington. For her Bronze Award, she and two others constructed a mobile book storage and supplied it with books. She’s not quite sure what her Gold project will look like yet but she’s working on a plan already.

Anyway, I am preparing my mind and body for the advance of Christmas. And while I am hoping and planning for a low key and quiet holiday, we’ll see what happens.
