The Gift for a King!
Psalm 27:4 says “One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in his temple.”
The Gift for a King!
As Christmas fast approaches us and the new year right around the corner minds begin to wonder what will be the right gift to give someone this year. What will be that Perfect Gift?
As human in the natural flesh it’s about earthly things; maybe ring, bracelet, necklace, money, towels, cookware, etc. Well for me, I thought about a pillow; I thought about the year 2022 and how it was sometimes good-bad-happy-sad-peaceful-restless—so I thought how my pillow was sometimes restless to my head sometimes from having it for years with problems it suffers with me in trying to hold my head up through the tears and joy over the years.
So I bought about 25 pillows to give to my family. What a great thing! Serta comfort with a little lamb lying down on the covering. What a gift, Mary had a little lamb as a mother being pregnant with children and gave birth. Oh the gift of a pillow to lay our heads on in sickness/surgery.
The best gift the Bible talks about is the birth of Jesus Christ—He is the birth of life light, new hope for a dark world. It was said which is the evil one, the werewolf or the vampire. Before you laugh the scriptures say you better cover your mouth because look, they both operate in the dark. Sin is darkness; I don’t care who is operating it—me-you-or who.
Jesus came to take us out of the dark world of Mary and bring her over into the marvel light. The scripture teaches us to give the gift to our children first to reverence God. His first commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and the second commandment is to love your neighbors as yourself.
So often times we cannot love ourselves because of jealousy, envy, pride, greed, lust, hating one another (St. Matthew 2. V7). Herod called the Magi secretly to find out from them the exact time the star had appeared. V8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him report to me so that I too may go and worship him.”
You better be careful when man sends you out to do a job concerning God’s business. V9 After they had heard the King, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east-west ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. V10 When they saw the Star they were overjoyed.
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him with gifts of gold and of frankincense and of myrrh.
St. Mark 15:23 says: Jesus is offered wine with myrrh before his crucifixion because it is supposed to be a painkiller. Myrrh is a saplike substance (resin) that comes out of cuts in the bark of certain trees. Myrrh is used for problems in the stomach and intestines. The benefits of myrrh have been apparent in perfume, medicine—scent for candles. In the Old Testament the ancient Egyptians used it to preserve their most respected and beloved Pharoahs, kings and leaders.
But Jesus came to suffer for mankind so we would have a sinless life with him. The songwriter wrote what can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus, so let us all celebrate the gift. As you-me-us celebrate the wonder of His birth in Bethlehem, remember to celebrate also your birth into eternal life. This amazing gift was His purpose for coming into the world. Enjoy God’s gift with humble, thankful hearts. Take time to show how God’s love for you-me-us really is. And let God’s peace rule in your heart, my heart and our heart, because you know how much God loves us all. Amen-Amen-Amen.
So get and give a Serta Comfort pillow and sleep good tonight because Mary had a little Lamb for all who believe!
