March Is Women’s History Month

On March 8th, women around the world are celebrated for their accomplishments. In 1901 women suffragist groups experienced the power women had when they banded together. It took another 19 years to get women the right to vote when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified.

Each day Google celebrates a special day by displaying a “Google.Doodle”. This year is no exception. On March 8th the theme for the doodle was “Dare to Be” dedicated to International Women’s Day.

Countries around the world recognize Women’s Day. It is customary in some countries to give corsages and bouquets to women. The mimosa is the official flower to be given, symbolizing solidarity.

Women wear many hats, that includes in the United States 42 percent of all U.S. businesses are owned by women and employ 9.4 million women.. Think of how many businesses in Jasper County are owned by women including this newspaper.
