In The Twinkling Of An Eye
Introduction: Jesus tells us through the writings of Paul that He will come in the “twinkling of an eye.” Are you ready? What does this mean? What will happen? Where will you be? How soon are we there?
In the 15th chapter to the Corinthian believers, Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, writes the following: “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
Do a quick word study:
•“Mystery” is µ?st?????, which means a mystery or secret doctrine—once hidden—now revealed.
•“Moment” is ?t?µ??, which we get our word ATOM, which here means uncut, that cannot be cut, an indivisible part of time, a moment.
•“Twinkling” is ??p?, which means any rapid movement, a twinkling (of lights or the eye), a glance, twinkle or flash of the eye; a rush of wind or flame.
Here are some changes that will take place in the “twinkling of an eye.”
1) Our bodies will be changed!—“But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? …But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body” (1 Corinthians 15:35-38).
What about a brand new body? Sounds good, doesn’t it? But what kind of body? We will have a body like Jesus! “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).
No more wrinkles, taxes or termites!
2) Our belongings will be changed!—“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law” (1 Corinthians 15:55-56). Death will once and for all be defeated. Why? Because death could not overcome Jesus. Instead, Jesus conquered the grim reaper once and for all!
3) Our battlefield will be changed!—“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Four words come to mind:
1. Resist –“be ye stedfast”
2. Retreat – “unmoveable”
3. Reclaim – “always abounding in the work of the Lord,”
4. Rewards – “forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
As soldiers of the cross—every Christian is fighting a daily battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. But someday soon, the battle will be over! Until then, stay the course… Keep fighting the “Good Fight of Faith”!
Thank you soldier!
Conclusion: Since Jesus came the first time, there is no reason not to believe that He will return. Instantaneously, all of these changes will take place. Are you getting ready? Have you turned from your sins and turned to Jesus asking His forgiveness and trusting in His redeeming blood to reconcile you to Him? Why not today?
If so, then keep looking up because Jesus will come in “The Twinkling Of An Eye”!
