Mes De La Herencia Hispana

Translated Hispanic Heritage Month which began as a week in September until it was changed to a month, September 15-October 15, by President George H.W. Bush.

The month-long celebration is to recognize the heritage of a portion of our citizens who hail from Costa Rico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico. These dates were chosen to remember the anniversary of their Independence from Spain.

In the 2020 census Jasper County, Georgia shows nearly four percent of our population is Hispanic.

Our total population of nearly 15,000 supports three Mexican restaurants. What’s your favorite menu item? Personally, my favorite is a hard shell taco with beef and some guacamole. Food is not the only thing we appreciate of the Hispanic culture, also music and the history.

Celebrate with our Hispanic neighbors.
