Thank You Veterans
This message is to all our veterans.
In our family we have generations of veterans as I am sure other families do.
My husband, William Donald Jernigan, served in Vietnam. His father, William O. Jernigan, served during World War II.
My father, James William McCarter, had an unusual service record. At age 21, August, 1940, he volunteered for the U.S.Army, but the United States had not declared war yet, so he was put into the Puerto Rican Army and sent to Panama. Until 1944 after D-Day he remained there, then sent to a modified boot camp and eventually to Europe as a replacement soldier for the U.S Army until the end of the war.
Uncle John Felker, Jr. served in the Navy during the Korean War.
My first cousin, Clifford Max King, served in the Army in the 1960’s.
My paternal grandfather, Dolphus Hannerd McCarter, was drafted during World War I.
Generations of families in the United States have fought and died to keep us free, freedom is not free.
You can trace your veterans by going to the website for the U.S.Archives. WikiTree is also another source. “No man is an island, no man lives alone.” We all depend on each other.
