On October 25-26th, a 4-H Volunteer Summit was held in Columbia, MO at the University of Missouri campus. Volunteers from all corners of the state converged together for this two-day conference. Clark County was represented by three volunteers, Chris Pearl, Tammy Pearl and LaTisha Scott-Snead. Volunteers heard keynote speaker Shannon McKain (former KC Chiefs cheerleader). She presented on her Rally Mentality: Defining and Defeating Limitations for Success. Be sure to ask Chris Pearl about his cheerleading experience on stage!
Volunteers were also able to engage in several parallel breakout sessions on Saturday, a tract for new volunteers and a tract for veteran volunteers. Those included: Project Leader Basics, Effective Strategies for Recruiting 4-H Members, Sowing the Seeds for Youth and Clubs to Thrive, Opportunity for All: Inclusion Plans & Disability Awareness, Practical Experiential Learning Tips, Leading with Staff Support, Demystifying STEM, Developing America’s Next Generation of Good Neighbors, 4-H Agriculture and Natural Resources: Cultivating the Next Generation of Leaders and Volunteer Recruitment: Leveraging Relationships to Build 4-H through any Skill Set.
Lupita Fabregas, Missouri 4-H Senior Program Director, was an opening speaker and touched base on the Thrive Model and how that model will be used to continue to help support the 4-H Members along their journey.
The hope is that an event like this can be hosted again in the future! LaTisha stated: “It was so great to be with like-minded 4-H Volunteers that share the love and passion for 4-H. It is interesting to hear how clubs and counties manage their programs. Coming back home with new ideas to help grow and sustain the 4-H program is invaluable.”
“It was a very positive experience! We were able to attend several seminars for volunteers to assist club members, volunteers and club leaders. It was great to hear from the state office how to help encourage folks to join us in 4-H and the life changing experiences that it can offer!” said Chris Pearl.
